Doc- officer MOS's have changed several times over the years- they have been 3 numbers, 4 numbers, 2 numbers and a letter. My letter of my primary has changed, changed back, etc. My first enlisted was 11B. But way back then, there was no aviation branch, no special forces branch, etc. And there were 1 # 1 letter skill designators- 5R Ranger, 5H Service Academy instructor, etc.

Times change, have been retired well North of 20 years, do not even try to keep up with the number changes any more.

BDO/UXO work is sorta like playing the lottery- except you find out right away if you are a winner! But people DO tend to leave you alone to work....

Thanks for the diagram!! That pretty much sums it up. It's funny how the day after I posted this question, I got a feed in my YouTube by hickok45 explaining my very question lol but this diagram was a great help in explaining the difference between the two.

Hickok45 is my favorite YouTube celebrity. He's a pretty knowledgable guy.

Gunslinger- I would like to apologize- thread went way off course from your question. We can be easily distracted at times.

Hickok posts some really good materials. Enjoy his videos.

Bit of trivia- one of the problems with large (like .56 caliber) rimfire rounds- the amount of priming compound was so large, had a tendency to blow out the base of the cartridge. One attempted remedy was to have a slight dish to the case head, arching it slightly against the internal pressure. Much sought after by cartridge collectors today.
