cast bullets in 7.62X39
I got a chance to wring out some more cast bullet loads in 7.62 X 39. I am using a 150 gr RNGC from a Lyman mould. I cast them very hard (near linotype hardness) and quench in water straight out of the mould.

Standard gas check and hard (heated) lube. Thompson Blue angel is my favorite. Lube in back half of the grease grooves. Sized to .310 they should be pretty close to bore diameter.

Winchester cases and large rifle standard primers. Win-748 is my preferred powder for most rifle loads so I gave it a go. For the 123 gr FMJ's I use 27.5 grains so I dropped that down and worked up. I found that 24 grains of 748 gives good accuracy (2 moa) and perfect functioning. 24.5 grains works also w/o leading but is a bit compressed. I don't have the exact OAL but I leave the front 2 grease grooves exposed.

I have not chrono's the load but should be around 2000 fps. It functions and shoots accurately in both my Norinco SKS and Polish AK. Cheap bullets that function perfectly fine, shoot accurately and hit hard. What more could one ask for?

if they are near lino hardness what alloys are you using?

I use 8 parts wheelweights, 1 part 50/50 bar solder and 1 part linotype. I use this alloy for all my rifle bullets including .45-70 340gr plain base flat nose at 2000fps w/no leading problems.

I would use pure linotype if I had more of it but I have to ration out what I have until I make my next find. Occasionally a gargage sale will have a bucket of type for a couple of bucks. I jump on it when I can find it. A buddy got really lucky and found a garage sale that had over 200 pounds of linotype for $10. WOW!

That is a good mix you got going there, ebay has lino you can find some good deals I shoot all pistol and I mix 9 lbs WW and 1 lbs 50/50 works well for me never leading and I make my own lube.

I don't cast my own but a good friend gave me some to try out. I like to develop different loads for the x39 never know what you might have to end up using a some point the way things are going. I loaded these in several groups with 1/2 gr. spreads, the best load was 22.0 grs. Reloader#7

Bullet I used. 155 gr.WW Lee mold

Target 50yds. sights zeroed for 123 gr. FMJ and SP's
