I read the instructions.... I'm going to touch the mating surfaces....

So you're not talking about bullet lube. You're talking about fluxing the mold.

With bullet lube. As per the suggestions in the manual.

Ok. Now I got you. When I mold round ball I'll usually sparingly flux the mold before I start. I use straight beeswax. It all basically melts out of the mold when you preheat it anyway.

I use Amsoil Saber two cycle motor oil for sprue plate lube and to lube the Hollow point pins. Just a drop on the tip of a Q-Tip pretty much cover my whole casting secession. It also works great in my chainsaw, weed eater and leaf blower.

For those of you that missed it, there are two parallel conversations going on here- lube for ball and cap style bullets, and for smokeless modern.

They serve different purposes, and have different criteria and composition. BP has used beef tallow, lard, beeswax, mutton fat, and vegetable oils. You might do some reading on the spark that ignited the Sepoy Rebellion in India.

Hell, veggie oil+paraffin might even work.

IDK, I do well with the Hornady wax for smokeless.
