Black Talon?
I thought I read here, somewhere, someone mention Black Talons. I thought those were discontinued, or still being made but under a different name. Those that have had any experience with them,were/are they a good HD round?

my opinion more hype than substance. used a few to dispatch some feral dogs way back expansion was iffy. there are much better hollowpoints out there today. speer gold dots are right up there. as are the hornady critical defense ftx bullets. both are vastly superior to black talons.
back when black talons came out they were better than most hp available at the time but personal i would rate em only marginally better than fmj.
thats my personal opinion im sure other folks may have different experiences

Wow! A little better then FMJ? I wouldn't of thought that. Guess its REAL old school stuff.

if you believe the media hype about them, just being in the same town as a handgun with black talons is enough to kill ya. according to abc nbc cbs and the brady bunch having one miss by 6 feet was enough to rip your arm off and would go through 12 inches of steel armor plate.

Ive personally seen the aftermath of a 147gr 9mm through a mans thigh. They are nasty. Full expansion. Blood was on all walls, floor and ceiling.
I still have 4 boxes of them in 10mm.

I could make a list of a bunch of guns i have, or "have", or wish I had. Why would one feel compelled to provide that infornation freely? Do you feel the need to show off? Is it some immature game of oneupsmanship?

Winchester Ranger is basically the same design. So is their Winchester Supreme Elite. The jacket isn't coated black, but the 6-petal design is still there. That's what I carry in .45 acp for my 1911's.

Without the black coloring, sold as Winchester SXT. Same Exact Thing. Good round. Yes, there are better on the market- NOW.

Like I've heard someone say 'round these parts...Expansion is just a bonus when the round is the size of a small baby.
