best load for a .338 win mag?

I'm about to start loading my own for my rifle and just looking to see what everybody else loads?

from what I've seen so far most people are saying the 225gr is the way to go with this caliber

i don't need a 1000 target gun but I do take shots out past 600 yards so I'm looking for a very predictable flight path

I don't have much experience with .338's, but, a couple of years ago we took my uncle elk hunting, he was shooting a 338 win mag. He was shooting federal premium 250 grain noslers. He was taking about 500 yard shots, in about a 5 mph crosswind, and we could see were he was hitting pretty good. (He is a pretty terrible shot and hunter, but trying to get him half way close was a nightmare--long story.) I really like the old nosler partition load, if I had a 338 I'd start with trying to match that. I hope this helps!

just more research and trial and error i guess :) thanks for the direction

any idea how fast they were moving?

The only info I can find online says 250 gr nosler partitions at 2660 fps. Seems kinda slow, but with the higher BC and higher weight it evens out. I was hoping if I answered your post it would bump it up and get someone more knowledgeable in 338's to answer. Sorry if I'm not much help. :(

The .338 Win Mag is a very popular hunting rifle in the Rocky Mtns. It will put down elk or moose. It is also carried as protection in case of a Grizz encounter. Most everyone will be shooting 250 Grs. bullets. As for slow the 45-120-550 Sharps is a long range killer lumbering along at 1,200 FPS.;)

SST's have shot really well in everything I've tried them in.
