I want to see what people think is the best all around progressive press by cost, speed, quality, available dyes, etc.

I have had a dillon 650 since last June and love it.
About 4000 rds of 45 and 2000 rds of 9mm and no problems at all.
Don't cheap out, get the case feeder.
I can easily crank out 500 rds in an hour, on a real good day 7-800.

The problem with the SDB is that there is no future growth with that device. It works great, but you have to use special Dillon dies. If you want a Lee factory crimp die, (which is one of the better crimping systems out there), you can't use it. It doesn't fit in a SDB.

The best progressive press is a Dillon RL550. It does every caliber known to man, can be run as a single stage press when you need it and accepts industry standard dies.

It was my first press and it was the best.

PS: I do now have a XL650 and love it.

I have had a Dillon 450 for 35+ years. It's the 550 now. I have made the upgrades to the 550 except for the tool head which is nice. I keep about a thousand of each caliber (many) on hand and this model suits me fine. I do not need to do 500 an hour since 5.56 and a Thompson are not in the stable. The Dillon dies are great and I use RCBS as well. The Dillon folks are great to deal with if and when you need them.

I have a 450 ungraded as well.

I gave my XL650 to my son a couple of year ago. Since I don't shoot nearly as much as I used to. I can get by with the much slower 450/550 and he can utilize the full benefit of the 650.

I can still turn out 1500 rounds in an evening.
