Bad batch?
I was lucky that this round felt odd as I was loading a magazine. Not sure what it would have done had it fired. This is WWB 9mm.

I'd call Winchester and send them a pic.
Might just get you a replacement or two.

Winchester will want that ammo and might or should send you a replacement box of ammo.

That right there is comparable to finding a roach in your soup!
I agree with Cane and Tango. Winchester should do you right and send ya a new box of ammo, or at least a monetary substitution for their replacement.

Looks nasty! One wonders is the missing piece of case in the case or not ? Would the missing piece if it is in the case do anything go downrange and in what direction? If it didn;t clear the muzzle what would happen on the next shot?

Thank you, gentlemen. I will contact them this week.
It did spur me to check each round before loading, so at least there was a lesson.

That is ugly! I am not going to do a check of each round prior to loading.

I'm trying to determine the defect rate of the WWB ammo. On average, each week I shoot about 250 rounds of 9mm and 100 rounds of .40SW. Actually for the past 4 weeks that is exactly what I shot. Assuming that I caught every defective round since I started looking, it's about 1 defect per 500 rounds for 9mm (2 defects in last 4 weeks). In that same period, 1 defect per 400 rounds (1 defect in last 4 weeks). I've had not had any FTFs in that period.
The only issues in my notes besides the defective rounds are some multiple instances where the slide was staying open with rounds left in the mag on my Glock 22 (.40SW). I determined that this was because my thumb was creeping up and engaging the slide release. After making sure to avoid this, the gun/ammo shot perfectly.
Last night I picked up two cases of UMC 9MM from WalMart (250 rounds per case). It was $59 for the case. I'll inspect the lot tonight after and see if their defect rate is comparable. Don't know if 1/500 and 1/400 is expected.

First picture: if it chambered, you could fire it just fine. However, it WILL NOT shoot to your group.
Second picture: that is a KB waiting to happen. Bullet set-back has probably broken more guns than double charges and is REALLY BAD in .40.
