Crazy.

Too true Cnynrat. A co-worker in Fresno claimed that he visited two wal-marts in search of some .45 acp ammo. To his shock, there was nothing left on the shelves (we confirmed by making calls to both stores). The only thing they could tell him was to call every morning around 8 am.
It appears folks are anticipating Nobama's increased sales tax on ammo. Or maybe something more sinister and devastating.

Only two??? Piker!
I checked out five, count 'em five WalMarts before I found anything. And it was Federal .22. Bought two bricks. Nothing in .32, .30 Carbine, .38, .357 or other pistol ammo. Plenty of 7.62x39.

Ammo Shortage?
Ammo Prices here seem to remain fairly stable. .223 and .308 Win. spotty at times. Ball .223 around $8.00 box of 20 rounds, .308 Win. between $11.00 to $15.00 box of 20. Lately when stores are out of inexpensive ball I can always find more expensive hunting ammo. Componets for reloading is practically out everywhere here however. .308 bullets are in fair supply but not the grain weight I like to reload and .300 Win. Mag. brass is practically non existant. CCI BR II primers are non existant also. IMO I believe the "Panic Buying" is the true culpert here. Manufactures are probably ovewhelmed for the demands at present and are more than likely hesatant to risk ramping production up too much and risk sitting on product of excess inventory come years end that may occur when this public buying spree for ammo and componets returns to more normal volumes. Well, thats my 2 cents worth.

I don't know about you and some other guys, but I plan to keep ammo acquisition at a high priority for quite a while. At least for the next four years. Who wants to be caught flatfooted again, especially if some serialization or identity requirements for buying ammo come down the pike?

My co worker is easily discouraged.

No ammo shortage here in Indiana, I went the other day and got a brick of .22 LR at Wal-Mart for a little over $18. I got my .22 at wal-mart because it's cheaper there than the local gunstore and got my .45 ACP at the gunstore because my wal-mart rarely has .45 ACP. They are always out of ammo there, sometimes they have a lot and other times they are nearly out. I've gone to a Meijer store (similar to wal-mart) before and noticed they even had 8mm Mauser. I thought it was kinda odd for a department store to have that ammo.

I was at Wally World yesterday, and their shelves were pretty bare. There 1 box of Winchester 44 Magnums, and 2 boxes of Winchester 380 FMJ's. I bought it all. I didn't need it.

I've been trying to get my wife to understand that just there's no such thing as too much ammo. I have about 300 rounds of 7.62x54, 200 rounds of 12 gauge in various forms (shot and slugs) a brick and half of .22 LR and about 100 rounds of .45 ACP. She see's it as something I just shoot up and is gone. I say what if something happens and we need ammo, like to survive. She just rolls her eyes and says if that happens we'll go spend all our money on ammo. I tell her that buying ammo in a SHTF situation is as pointless as trying to buy propane during a poweroutage. It's just not around.

From one Indiana shooter to another=Having only 100 rounds of 45ACP in stock is kind of like running around with your pants down! If you need help come on up here, and I'll loan you a couple-a-hundred

You should explain it this way.
Its like your wife having 1/4 of ONE lipstick, 1/3 bottle of hair conditioner, and two colors of eye shadow that are rarely used...and you saying she has WAAAAAAAYYYY too much makeup.
I go through that much ammo in every trip to an outdoor range. Indoor range I keep it to about 300 rounds of .357 sig and 9mm each time I go.
