Ammo quantity ?

How much ammo should I own ? What's an average? I know it's a personal preference. But I'm just wondering what other people stock up on and how much ?

I have this rule of thumb.
I think it is proportional when one spends the price of the gun on Ammo as a Iron reserve.

So if I have a 1500 dollar gun I might stash 1500 dollars of ammo.

This formula adjusts for price bubbles.

I know I will gte a lot of flak for it but the more you think about it the more it makes sense.

I try and keep at least 1K rounds per pistol and rifle caliber plus 2K-3K in .22LR. I reload also and keep enough for at least 500-1000 in components on hand. This allows me to still go to the range during shortage periods like we are in now.

Bluez sounds like a great concept, I will keep that in mind.

the answer to how much ammunition is enough is 1 round per second for the rest of your life. 85 years 2,682,396,000 rounds of ammo enough to take one shot every second. if you havent got that much ammo you dont have enough. pro-rate for age.

Hence why there isn't any .223 anywhere :P

Thanks. This way things stay proportional.. It would make sense to only ahve a single rifle and 15,000 rds of ammo since you'd be sitting on uselss ammo if yur gun breaks in SHTF.

But if you ahve an expensive quality rifle it also adjusts for its assumed extra longevity and such an expensive tool deserves to be backed by more "fuel"

And if you have a cheap rifle of say 700 bucks , it might make sense to buy a second one after you stahed a certain amount of ammo.

Since the current price bubble affects both guns and ammo it still works.

But even if it affected only one not the other it would still make sense the more one thinks about it.
It also adjusts for the cost of different calibers IMO.

I don't store any -- there's always a WalMart around, they are always well stocked with as much of everything you might possibly want, and the prices are always low. Know what I mean?
