I got into a conversation at the VFW last night about ammo. We talked about all the B.S lately on shortages, price ect. Brought up a point about hoarding. We have a guy who has a pallet of .223, another that has 3500 of .45, and a few other guys who have a crap load. I personally have about a 1000 rounds of all calibers I have guns for. How much do you thinks is about right. I always buy fresh ammo when I go shooting and cycle out the old. , but maintain 1K of rounds per caliber in my safe. I have 12 guage, .40, .45, 5.56,7.62x39- 1K per caliber.

I'm sure there are some people that will say-as much as possible , but realistically what do you think is smart to own. I'm just curious to see what the average is.

As much as possible seems realistic to me. Still, as much as my two safes can fit.

As much as you can afford without sacrificing your family's needs.

I plan on shooting for the rest of my life. I like to shoot, a lot. if my government turns full marxist on me, then either the sale of guns and ammunition will end, or there will be a revolt. Either way I plan on shooting until the end. So the more rounds I have the better.

about 2 billion rounds of ammunition is the correct answer.

thats 1 round per second round the clock non stop for 65 years. prorate for expected life span and divide amongst yopur calibers.

if you dont have 2 billion rounds you dont have enough ammo.

I agree, we just don't know what's coming but we all have seen bare shelves many times over the last five years. So it makes sense to get what you can when it's available. I have a few calibers I keep as well supplied as I can.

Anna, great picture of you but it's time for a serious haircut. You look too much like a gun grabbing Democrat! ... J/K

Some people (usually the have nots) call it hoarding when they see 'the haves' stockpile. I call it an investment. My father would always tell me how he used to get 1200 7.62x39 rounds for 99 dollars. Prices will never be like that again, and 30 years from now they will be a lot more than they are now. If I have the money, I'll continue to hoard as many as I can.

Your picture of you is also nice. Is that a bullet in your shirt pocket, or are you just happy to see me? lol

I was just going thru all (not like there is really that much) my ammo last night (added 3 more boxes of Tula Steel case for testing in my ATI Omni) and realized how little I personally feel that I have. 120 rounds .223 Tula, 300 rounds Winchester white box 5.56x45, 220 rounds Silver bear .223, 40 rounds of AR556 .223 made by Federal, 150 rounds 9mm (even though I still don't own a 9mm firearm) over 700 rounds of .40 S&W, only 140 rounds of 12 gauge mixed loads and 500 rounds of .22 lr !
