Default Ammo Ever Explode?

Have you ever dropped your ammo and had it explode or had it explode from other causes (too much heat, stuff falling on it, etc)? Please share

I've had ammo and explosives go through some serious abuse and not have any problems.

Have you ever even handled ammuntion or fired a weapon?

Ammo is VERY safe to handle. This question rises from watching too many movies.

I have had several rounds explode when they were dropped into the chamber of the appropriate weapon and the hammer fell striking the firing pin which, in turn, struck the primer and caused a terribly loud blast out of the muzzle and caused the bullet to travel at high velocity until it passed through a paper target and impacted the berm. Seriously, accidental detonation of ammunition from being dropped is EXTREMELY rare. Even in a fire the worst thing that happens is the primer pops out and the powder flares off feeding the fire. There is no danger unless the ammunition is contained by the weapon's chamber and the round "cooks off" sending the bullet out of the muzzle at the normally expected velocity.

I personally know of one case where someone tossed a box of 9mm to a friend and one of the rounds in the box struck a primer hard enough to cause one of the bullets to explode. This explosion, however, did not cause any of the other rounds in the box to go off. As long as you don't do stupid crap like throw ammo, you'll never have a problem.

That's cool. This is my second post in this forum and you have nothing to measure my credibility with. I'm sure the other readers will find your contribution incredibly meaningful to this discussion.

I'll be happy to go into more detail about the occurrence I spoke of if you're interested at all.

Ammo CAN go off if dropped. REALLY a rare thing. There is a thread with
pictures on the Brian Enos Forums of such an incident. I am also acquainted
with a State Police firearms instructor who said he had an incident in a training session of a dropped round of 45 ACP hitting on rough gravel and
detonating.

I've done that too. I've also tossed some into a wood stove. They just go "bang" but that's about it. I did hear of someone putting .22 round into a vise and hitting it on the rim with a hammer, again, not much happened. The brass blew out and went bang. I've also heard of someone using a .22 round in place of an AGC (old glass type) automotive fuse. It worked.
