Default 7.62x 54r

Anyone loading 7.62x54r? I know the bullet diameter is 3.11. I am loading for a Romanian PSL.

I believe the intended "sniper" load was 152 gr. most of the surplus stuff varies from 148 to around 180gr.

Thanks for the help. If I get suggestions I will try to work up a few loads. Some have suggested pulling 148 gr from surplus and using them in brass casings.

Thanks

Yes, .311 is the bore diameter. I have checked a few loadings though and found some bullets to have .312 diameter. These tend to shoot more accurately in my Mosin, but it has a pretty worn bore.

.303 British also uses .311 bullets.

Russian 7n1 Sniper ammo uses a 152gr bullet

Thanks that's in line with what my research shows. I think the Jap load is also 3.11. I haven't slugged the bore or anything on mine but the mil-specs seem to show 3.11.

Im getting ready to reload for my Mosin 91/30... Anyone have data for 150 gr. bullet at around 2800 fps, using RL-15? My books have data but the test rifle was a M44 and the velocitys are different...

308 dia bullets are worth trying my M39 and 1948 M44 shoot them well. My 1934 91/30 does not like them. Here are two loads my guns like.

165-168gr 308dia bullets
44gr IMR 4064

123gr 310 dia bullets (7.62x39 bullets)
50gr IMR4064

51

I use my 91-30s and M44s for hunting and have had very good luck with the speer 2217 which is a .311 150gr soft point. Hornady also makes a .3105 in 174gr HPBT. Just a couple of additional options.
