Default 45 ACP Opinions wanted

I love my 45. I have Glock 21 I have shooting regular since I got it in April. I've used 230gr, 200gr, and 185gr Round nose flat hollow point SWC lead copper all of it. I find that my Glock likes the lighter projectiles. The recoil is snappier, I can get to target on the second shot better. I feel that the 230grain stuff is better for the 1911 all metal guns. The plastic guns like the lighter stuff. I tried to use SWC in lead and copper jacketed did not like it in the Glock. Right now I have some X-Treme 200 flat point jacketed copper with 5.3grains of Bullseye and a Remington primer. Beautiful combination. The recoil is nice the feed is nice everything nice.

Try the 230grn in a xdm or cz97bd. In a cz it makes the 45acp seem like a weak 9mm. The xdm distributes felt recoil better than a glock21. Same is true of the hk usp series. My colt lightweight commander 1911 has far less felt recoil than any of the previous mentioned

The glock21 to me feels only very slighty less felt recoil than a 1911 but it seems to have more rotational torque.

I'm not a fan of the lighter 45acp loadings and stick with the 230grainers

Please be careful using lead reloads with the Glock polygonal barrel.

High pressures can happen.
(Even with some copper washed bullets.)

i prefer 230 or 200 gr FMJ loads for practice or the same weight bullets in JHP for SD/HD usage. i don't try for huge velocity with a 45 acp. i try to keep my reloads in the 850-1000 fps range, depending on the bullet weight i am loading.

IMO, the 230 FMJ load at around 850 fps range worked great for a lot of years. kind of hard to improve upon something that works that good.

Same here, I reload for my 45acp and I keep it simple and original with a 230gr bullet. Never had a problem with my glock 21 not liking 230gr bullets but I have never tried anything lighter in my glock. I will have to try for myself.

I am going to swing the other way. I like the lighter loads in my 45's. Like Axxe I don't push a lot of velocity. I use a 200 grn Hornady XTP in the neighborhood of 900 FPS. For plinking I use a 200grn copper coat bullet with 5.1 grns of Titegroup.

I guess I am the odd man out. I like a 255 grain lead bullet in my 1911. I push them to about 775 fps. I was intrigued when I read about people using that bullet for bowling pin shoots. When that 255 grain bullet hits something it really goes flying.

My 21 hasn't been picky as far as light vs heavy bullet loads. Shoots 230s, 200s, 185s just fine. I mostly shoot 230s though. Most of my practice ammo is 230 FMJ. So I just try to stay consistent.

The smaller Glocks Have polygonal barrels. The big Glocks Have octagonal barrels.

Still, not something you want to shoot lead through.
