Default .45 acp 230gr. JHP?

I know this is a long shot but does anyone make something like this? Maybe even with some sort of round cap to facilitate feeding in a 1911?

Now that I searched some more I see there are several 230 gr JHPs org there. So I guess I now have another question...is the 230 gr JHP Golden Saber about the best choice for a 1911, or do you all have a different favorite?

JD, Great now I have to become a LEO just to buy my ammo

"LEO" rounds are available to the general public through a variety of websites. Everyone has their own favorite brand, but the truth is the vast majority of the options out there will perform admirably. Golden Sabres would certainly be among the popular choices. My personal preference is Winchester Rangers.

If you want a flush, rounded cone (FMJ style) defensive round, check out CorBon Pow'RBall 165gr+P. Should be an ultra-reliable feeder in any decent 45acp.

Check here for great prices on Rangers or here for just about anything else.

That Powerball stuff is exactly what I was looking for, but I wanted something 230 gr. so I could practice with the 230 FMJ WWB. I think I'd rather go with a regular HP than the powerball if that's the only way to get 230 gr.

I wonder how the HPs achieve 230 gr? Do they have more bullet in the case than FMJs do? Do one of the 230 gr HPs out there have the same load as the WWB does?

The Speer Gold Dot 230 gr HP has a reputation for feeding like FMJ. Performance is superb.

I had always planned on reloading my target ammo and purchasing 'high quality' commercial SD ammo for carrying, but now that you mention it, if there is nothing in 230 gr. JHP with a dome, then I suppose I might as well just reload with JHP and not worry about using different ammo for target/CCW.

Thanks for the idea Larry!

I was looking for the .45 Kings thread to link it for you, Jesse17. I know someone can find it faster an link it here. I believe most of the reports were performed with 230gr, and all with hp's. Fact is, that there are many mfrs now putting out jhp's that have wide rounded edges to facilitate feeding. I still love the Winchester Bonded PDX1's.

I did a ballistics report on some Hornadys that JPyle sent me and they have a red poly "head" and a more acute angle that makes like a dome. I don't know if they make a 230gr, I never looked for them as I am solid with the PDX1s I tested in the ".45 Kings" thread. Heck, they even fed my Hi-Point without fail.
