As you are not a re-loader, look at one of the 44 Special loadings. Hornady has a nice 180 grain JHP XT that will stand a better chance of less over penetration yet provide adequate stopping power for home use.
Heavy bullets tend to plow on through, that's penetration of walls. Higher velocity loads are good for expanding the bullet and lessen the penetration.

I suggest you go with a 45ACP over a revolver in 44 cal. Faster reloads, faster follow up shots, less effects on the people next door or across the street.

Think about reloading. That will open up an entire world to you.

A follow up thought.
Reload. Oh, I said that already.
I load 240 grain cast lead bullets over 5.6 grains of 231 powder (in 44. mag cases) with standard large pistol primers and get a nice 846 FPS (at 10 Ft) out of a 6 1/2 inch Model 29. Punches a big hole, comfortable to shoot and will do as well if not better than most any other pistol rounds in the self-defense bracket.
This cost me the same as my 45ACP loads with 200 grain cast bullets and the same powder and primers. They clock at 981 fps (at 10 ft).
Reload, it is fun and give so many more option in shooting.
