40 s&w ammo

Can somebody please help me out and tell me what ammo is good 40 cal. I bought a couple boxes of Winchester and Tula today at a gun show but was wondering of somebody had good loads to shoot and carry

Personally when I carried I used 180 grain Hydrashocks

Do you know any cheap target loads that aren't to expensive

JSStryker 01-06-2013 06:24 AM

Well I've used the Sellier and Bellot 180gr FMJ and I just bought some bulk pack 100 rnds/box 180 grain FMJ Federal at Walmart for $24.97/box

Recently I havent seen cheap .40 for less than $20 a box but a few months ago it was about $13-$15 for WWB. Stupid panic buyers.

Is Tula alright? It's cheap fmj steel cased

I carry horniday critical defense at about a 1$ a bullet and target shoot the winchesters from walmart. They're like 34$ for 100rds

Some have to problem feeding Steel cased ammo in their guns. I see it as a but insulting to my investments. An AK is made for steel cased 7.62 X 39. You can run 87 octane gas in a Corvette and PROBABLY not damage it, by why risk it.

The Winchester White Box is decent, if not spectacular. Ditto for the Wally World Federal stuff. I used Remington UMC in other calibers, I would assume that is good to go in .40 as well. Practice/range ammo doesn't need to be particularly brilliant, it just needs to work reasonably well.
For full strength carry ammo I have used Winchester Personal Protection (White Box Hollow Points), Federal Hydrashocks & Winchester Ranger.
If it cycles reliably in your pistol, that's 95% of the battle. Beyond that, much of the hype about what ammo is best is marketing and other related BS. (IMHO) I'm of the opinon that if you center punch Mr. Badguy with a bullet designed for SD use, the brand of ammo won't be high on his list of priorities. Shot placement is more important than the number of capital letters strung together in the name of the ammo or the coolest overall name.
I hate to say it, but a lot of the time ammo choices are dictated by what you can find, not necessarily by what you'd prefer. With the feeding frenzy going on right now, you may just have settle for what's in stock.

Steel case is just fine for range ammo.

AND IT WILL NOT HARM YOUR WEAPON!!!
