.380 Reloading

Reloading .380 rounds using 3.2 gr of SR 4756, CCI Primers, and 100gr RNFP plated bullets. They fire just fine but it seems like I get a lot of unexpended powder coming out when the cartridge ejects. I have reloaded 9mm and .45 and not having any issue, the 9mm using the same powder and primers. Is it the powder?

That powder is way too slow for the .380. I would not use anything slower than green dot. I use 231 and red dot with good results.

I also use red dot and it works well. It's pretty much the only powder I use, so I'm kind of bias

Thanks for the info. I have not seen Green or Red Dot since I started reloading! Will keep it in mind though! Thanks for that site also!

Finding powder is tricky these days. I have been looking for Unique and Blue Dot for months now. I settled for Herco the last time I got powder and made it work for my needs.

Same here, haven't seen any Unique for almost a year on the shelf. Im down to about half a pound left and that isnt gonna get me to far. And suggestions on powder for 45acp, 357mag and 44mag?

.45 is easy. Almost any fast to medium burn rate pistol powder will work. From Bullseye to Blue Dot. The .45 is a very forgiving cartridge.

The others, not so much. For hot loads I prefer H-110 or W-296 (essentially the same powder). Blue Dot or 2400 work too

Thanks, I will see what I can find.

I have used HP-38 in .380 with ok results. But my favorite pistol powder is Titegroup. I use it in .380 and 44 mag, and just about everything in between.

I have some Titegroup so I will have to look into that one. Thanks!
