Default 380 ammo

I have PMC Bronze 90G FMJ ammo in my LCP 380! Is this adequate and reliable ammo for my gun for Every day carry??

Default 380 ammo

What is a solid defense Ammo that I have a decent chance to get my hands on!! I have PMC 90g FMJ currently!! Is that sufficient and dependable for my LCP?? I'm not looking to break down walls!! Just want reliable defense AMMO.

A lot of people say that a .380 loaded with JHPs lack penetration, you might want to consider using FMJs. Another option is to stagger JHP to FMJ. Buffalo Bore makes some kind of +p defensive ammo for the .380 but I can't remember what it's called.

The FMJ, in my opinion is fine for the .380. Remember that hollow points tend to open up and that will restrict their penetration. Also remember that a .380 is less powerful than a 9mm, even in +p, and heaving clothing will affect the penetration. You can easily test different ammos by shooting at a thick phone book. Granted, paper isn't skin, but it will at least allow you to see the difference between the different types.

Winchester Silvertip or Federal Hydra Shok, IMHO. A .380 is a short range up close and personal weapon. You don't need to shoot through car doors with it.

Only you can de3cide that.

for myself, I would choose W-W Silvertips, Federal Hydra Shok or Hornady Critical Defense.

This is definitely a good read, although some people don't agree with all of it

A very good article. A bit outdated, since several excellent loads are available now that were not available when the article was written. Hornady Critical /Defense comes to mind, as does Winchester Ranger XTP.

I also question his advocacy of Cor-Bon. Their bullets are not sealed into the cases with asphaltic varnish (the black ring in the case mouth after firing) that is characteristic of premium civilian and military ammo.

Overall, an excellent article though, and well worth printing out for future reference..

I hear so much about penetration. The average human body is 10 inches thick and only 4 inches to the heart and aorta. Every 380 defensive round on the market I am aware of is capable of no less than 9 inches of penetration with a fully expanded hollow point. If the bullet does not go through then is has expended all it's energy on the target and does not over penetrate to travel on to injure an innocent. By handloading one can get a 102 grain Remington Golden Sabre bullet up to 1000 fps out of a 380, which is a devastating load. The 380 was designed for use under 10 meters and the smaller guns can be carried when the larger calibers are left at home. If carrying a 380 I wouldn't worry about penetration.
