30-30 Win What's your favorite powder?
So I've now got a 30-30 and I need to start reloading for it. I plan to load mainly 170gr but I will probably dip into the 150grs for fun.
I'm shooting open sights so distances will be 100yds or less on whitetail. That is my target and what I"m loading for.... What powder are you guys using?

If you can tell by my screen name I am kinda fond of the 30-30 cartride. I have reloaded for it for 40 years now and have experemented with many powders and bullets from 90 grain to 190 grain. While there are alot of good powders, I like and have used exclusively for 20 plus years H335. It meters very well and cronographs well as moderate pressure.

Hard to beat IMR4895. I use it successfully in many calibers.

My favorite powder for the 30-30 is IMR 3031. H335 is also an excellent choice.

I use H335 & Red Dot for hunting and plinking loads but I don't use jacketed bullets. H335 is a good powder for either full house cast or jacketed bullets.

IMR4895 is a great general purpose powder. I use it in my M1 30-06 loads, 30-30, and 8x57 Mauser.

Thanks for the response guys.
I'm going to be loading on the heavier side of the scale, 150gr and up. I'm also starting to look into 223 so BL-C2 grabbed my attention. Anyone using it?

IMR 3031 and 4895 I use in my 308s abit. Slower burn then some. In a 30-30 you don't want a hot burn.

Yep, I agree. IMR 4895, I've been burning it in .30-06, .308, .30-30, and .444 for the last 35 years and have found no reason to try anything else.
