I am of that school of thought also. I used to shoot 4 or so shots a day. I would shoot at a small target 200 yards or so away and simply shoot until I hit. I used to think I was hot snot hitting the little jar at 200 yards with 3 or so shots. Sure I would hit it the first shot sometimes, but more times than not I would need to shoot more than once.
When I started reloading I found my rifle could shoot a lot more consistent than I thought possible.
I started taking one shot a day, knowing when I missed it was my fault. Instead of thinking, "I got more bullets, let me take another shot at that!" I started examining each shot closely as to what I did to error. I can always find a reason as to why I miss, then correct it for the next time.
Not that I don't miss any more, it is that I am more of a mindset to learn from those misplaced shots.
