Default 30-06 factory ammo

I went out shooting a couple days ago and I picked up a box of remington core-lokt 180gr ammo. In that one box I had two FTF. At a buck a round I really not trying to waste my money. So I was wondering what you all thought about what would be a better target/ hunting factory ammo??

Anything but Remington. IMHO they were the best, 40 years ago. They did little to nothing to improve their products for MANY years. EVERYONE else clawed their way up and left the big green dinosaur in their dust.

Remington has some good items, like the bronze point and core-lokt. There are better options available.

Federal, Winchester, Hornady, Speer. All are better than Remington

For targets, Aim has Prvi 150gr. http://www.aimsurplus.com/catalog.aspx?groupid=27&name=.30-06

Did you try and fire them a second and third time?

What rifle?

Sounds like it could be a rifle problem or an ammo problem.

Was there a good dent in the primer?

No I didn't try them a second or third time. But yes the dent was the exact same on all the primers. That's why I was thinking ammo.

ive had hangfires with remington ammo. remmington makes complete junk ammo. pretty much anything but remington. their bullet designs arent very good either.

hornady makes great deer bullets as do many others. i tend to use speer nosler hornady sierra when i load up hunting rounds. hornady seems most common so i tend to duplicate store bought hornady in case i have to buy off the shelf

I will have to get some hornasy ammo and try it out. The rifle I have is a remington 783. Is there something about the rifle that would cause an FTF even if the firing pin is making consistent contact to the primer??

Ive used Remington Cor-Lokt ammunition for many years. Its always been accurate and reliable. Accuracy wasn't bench rest but very good and I have never seen a cor-lokt round failure to fire unless it was a rifle issue. That being said I like the new Hornady White Tail ammo. Its cheaper than corlokt and I have got sub-moa groups with their 150gr 30-06. I have been reloading 30-06 for a long time and prefer my own rounds because I can make a excellent bullet cheaper than I can buy cheap factory ammunition.
