I always crimp bottleneck rifle cases separately, and use a Lee Factory Crimp Die to do it. It provides the firmest crimp possible, and does not place any longitudinal stress on the case itself, so it is impossible to buckle a case with it. The die itself contacts the shell plate on the upstroke of the press, and this provides the power to apply the crimp through a 4 finger collet arrangement. I have Lee Factory Crimp dies in most every caliber I reload for. Once you use one you'll know why. They are light years better than the standard seat / crimp dies provided in most die sets.

Yes, I prefer to seat and crimp in separate stations, for many reasons.
