Default 30-06 ball taiwan mfg.

A local guy has two spam cans of this 30-06 ball ammo made in Taiwan. He wants $200 2 boxes of 264 rounds each (loaded on end-blocks) in the spam cans w/ the original wood crate. His "RESEARCH ON HEADSTAMP INDICATES PRODUCTION AT 60TH ARSENAL KAO HSING TAIWAN NATIONALIST CHINA". ANYONE have any info on these or know if they are worth picking up????

I don't know about Taiwanese ammo. I do know that Korean .30-06 is corrosive.

That's a decent price if you're willing to do some extra cleaning just in case.

They will be loaded in "en-bloc" clips for the Garand. Sounds like a good price. If you don't want it, I call first dibs on it.

Not all Korean ammo is corrosive. Check the head stamp. The acronyms I learned are:

KA - Korrosive Ammo

PS - Pretty Sweet

The headstamp is: "60A 30 57". The only other marking is on the box "0.30R". Help please, I'm supposed to pick it up in 5 hours.

60A is the ID Headstamp for the 60th Arsenal, Kao Hsiung, Taiwan, Nationalist China

30 is for the caliber and 57 is the year. Some sources believe this is the year in the Chinese calendar which translates to 1969

Everything I find says it is corrosive (not a big deal if you clean the gun afterward with appropriate solvent/water)

Allegedly it has oversize, non standard primers and thus not reloadable.

$.26/round is really cheap right now even for one use ammo. The en-block clips are reuseable also. I would offer $150-$175 because it is corrosive/non-reloadable (might as well be Berdan primed) and bang away with it.

Some say Amonia. Some say Windex (some say it does not contain ammonia anymore). All agree hot, hot water is hard to beat. Older (WWII) era bore solvent works great.
The main part is to clean it ASAP after shooting (at least the same day)

OK, thats what I've been using is the WW2 solvent. It smells awful but it seems to work great. I'll just buy some more of it. What parts of the gun will nees to be cleaned every time??

Bore (obviously), Gas system (if applicable), bolt. Many recommend you flush out the receiver on a self loader as some residue will blow back and should be cleaned out.
