.223 VS 7.62x39 availability

Sorry if this is a repeating thread... First of all, I'm looking into buying a saiga rifle. I know that they are chambered in .223 and 7.62, as well as a couple others. Only based on price and availability of ammo, what would be a wiser choice between the two?

I think that you'll find that the 7.62 is IMHO the better and wiser choice as far as ammo is concerned.....

Sometimes you can get 1,000 rounds of 7.62x39 for under $400 if you find a good deal. .223 is just harder to find because of all of the AR-15s floating around.

What are you going to be using it for? Just shooting atr the range I would go for the .223 If you are going to hunt with it I would go with the 7.62X39.
My honest opinion, But you know what hey say about opinions and a certain body part:D.

Since the import ammo mysteriously appeared a while back both those calibers are pretty easy to find around here. And both are not priced to bad. I see more 223 ammo than most pistol calibers at the local Walmart(s). And the online venders seem to have a good enough supply of them both I"m seeing sales on them.

So..AS Fisherking said..

The answer to that question will get you a better answer than anything else.

Both .223 and 7.62x39 are cheep but I would have to give the edge in price to the 7.62x39

It won't be for hunting, but rather just blasting targets at the range.

Go with a 5.45x39 Saiga. Ammo is still under $150.00 for 1080 rounds.

Can 7.65 be fired from .223 rifle????

I have a Saiga .223 rifle. Can it also fire 7.65 rounds? they fit into magazine.
