.223 chambering problem

Ok, I've been reloading for a long time and just ran into a problem. I have 2 new Rockriver AR-15 and made up some reloads for them. I went out to shoot and one chambered and fired a 30rnd mag. The other would not close the bolt on the same ammo. I had to pry it out. I took each reload and when dropped into the chamber would not go all the way in. I dropped the same reloads in my bolt action .223 and it fit like a glove. Some old Lake City mil surp chambered also.

Question, I full length resized all the cases and they were once fired Lake City. Headspace problem? Small base problem? Tight chamber problem? what?

Tight chamber.

There is a "tolerance" in chambers. If that particular chamber was cut with a well worn chamber reamer, just before they replaced it, it could be just barely in tolerance.

If it were mine, I would contact RRA and ask if they would be willing to re-cut the chamber. (But don't tell them you reload:D)

The other alternative is a small base resizing die. That's the less expensive short term fix, but it may shorten brass life in your other rifles.

Is the problem RRA chambered for the .223 Wylde?

5.5645 NATO Chamber OAL: 2.550″
.223 SAAMI Chamber OAL: 2.410″
Wylde Chamber OAL: 2.445″

regular .223/5.56 chamber with 55gr VMax OAL was 2.250" I really think it's either the base or the chamber.

Bet it's the chamber.

Have you tried to fire factory ammo in the recalcitrant RRA?

yes I have lots of mil surp Lake City and it fires no problem. I measured my reload against the mil surp and really get no conclusive numbers. I've got a new headspace gauge coming from Dillon that should let me know for sure. I'm also thinking get a bore mop, chuck it in a drill and Flitz the hell out of the chamber

If you have a chrome lined chamber, don't polish it out.

checked my reloads with a Dillon headspace gauge. I get a headspace of .005 and the case OAL is .008 longer. Both of these are not enough to cause a problem in my other guns just this one RockRiver AR. Any thoughts?
