Im looking for good reloading ideas for a 220Swift. There doesn't seem to be much out there for this cartridge. Most of the bullets look the same (A-Max, V-Max, Z-Max, Nosler) The only real difference seems to be some have a boat tail some are flat. Ive been working up some Varmint Grenade loads which have been less than impressive as far as grouping. I have a pretty good set up for Coyotes with a nosler varmint but not sure how fast it is or if it would be a good load for prairie rats...

i use remington brass with nosler 40 gr ballistic tips bullets with 44 grs h-380 powder with cci-200 primers and oal of 2.680 i shoot it in a remington heavy barreled rifle and shoots great for coyotes. you can buy nosler bullets on their web page, shooter pro shop and there 2nds for a great price and if you order a lot the shipping is free

Dog recipe? I usually just marinate for half and hour and toss em on the grill.

Im working up a Hornady 50grn spsx round with winchester brass, cci primer, and roughly 41grn of H380. 1st outing to the range this looked promising.

I wouldn't shoot a 220 swift in a dog town myself. That is a sure way to get a new barrel on one in less than a week.

I prefer 6mmbr or 6ppc for anything out to 1k. The 220 swift is too over boar for a dog town where high volume is the name of the game.

I loaded 2k for my 6ppc and 1500 in my one 223 and I ran out of ammo by the middle of the week. Had to go to the portable loading room and load some more. Thank god for the 2 XL650 in my trailer.

I've had concerns about using my 220 swift as well. It is a beauty of a Ruger M77 with a tang safety. 1974 vintage. So, I am looking for a reasonably "inexpensive" backup rifle to take with. Right now the 220 swift and a 7mm mag are the only rifles I own which will shoot (accurately) over 100yds. My Ruger M77/22 will shoot out to 100-150 yds pretty tight with CCI Stingers, but that is the max. (Im thinking the 7mm mag is a bit stiff for dogs.)

My Dad and brother are bringing a 22-250, a 223, and a 243 along. I am leaning toward a 223 myself. (cheap ammo readily available once the reloads are gone.)

Is there anything out there which wont break the bank, and will still be worth owning?

BTW, I am not familar with a 6mmbr or a 6ppc. All Info appreciated.

I think the 223 is perfect. Plenty of reach and ammo is cheap. You can reload if you choose, but factory ammo is cheap and easy to find.
