Default Worth fixing up?

I got a 410 shot gun from a family member and not sure if I should spend the time/money to fix it back up.

I don't see any names or model numbers. MSC japan is on one side. Other has 410 three inch chamber.

Doing a search online I think it is a Winchester 37 .410 copy. The pics I saw are very close to the one I have.

As you can see from the pic the stock has been cut down and the paint is gone. The front grip is lose also. The hammer top must have broke somewhere in the past as it has been replaced with something.

I was thinking of finding a new stock and see about getting it repainted. Or just painted the stock and oil it up good and leave it alone

That would make a pretty snake gun.

They used it to shoot snakes, rats or any other stuff in the barn.

The barrel is 19" long so not sure if it was cut down or not. But looking at it again today it might have been cut

19" is legal & all. I would clean it up and do what i could for the finish and then just enjoy having it. It has the look of history and hard use; that is worth a lot more than a tenifer finish, IMO.

Looking closer at the barrel I don't see any marks showing it was cut so maybe that is stock.

I think I am going to pick up some sand paper and rub the barrel down and paint it. Not sure what type of paint to use but sure I can find something on this site going over that sort of thing.

well I think I screwed up. I was cleaning up the gun and tried to take out the screw on top right in front of the hammer. Now the hammer won't click and I can't get it back in so might have just broke my gun

I was able to put the screw back in and it works again. I can't get the pistol grip off which bugs me but as long as it works I am okay with it.

Thanks for the link on the coating, think I am going to try and pick something up this weekend

Talk to StalkingBear here on FTF. He is a gunsmithing genius. He might have some ideas for you on how best to fix up that gun.

I would get it blued not painted, If you can't get the grip off you could always throw a folding stock on it.
