i also have a model 97 i been having questions about, maybe you guys can help me out as well. my grandpa handed down to me a m97, m94 and a m77. the m97 sn: e 100***7 . anyone know the year? i took mine out the safe a few months back and put about 15 shells threw it. it worked perfect not a single issue. i would of fired it more but i just wanted to see if it worked and i didnt want to damage it in anyway since it has sentimental value to me. i also was wondering if i could find a replacement barrel for it maybe 18.5 or 20 inch. i think the barrel on it now is 30 or 32, im not 100 percent sure but know i would prefer a shorter barrel on it. here are some pics of the bad boy.

I was given a Winchester Model 97 12ga. i'm trying to figure out the year it was made the serial # is C 233642 i checked a site on the internet and it had many serial numbers but none matched mine. thank you.
I have a M 97 16 ga that was made in 1904 but has 'nt got the C prefix. Your gun is a takedown model they were made with a solid receiver as well. The barrel should have a matching number on it. No way you should sell it for 300 it's worth way more than that and will keep growing in value

Your 97 is a takedown model made in 1955 or 1956 need full # to tell as they only made 7100 in 55 your barrel should have a matching # on it

That's really a neat old shotgun. They are still completely functional and useful. John Browning got that one right (as he always did). My Dad had one in 16 gauge about 40 years ago. I wish I had it. He traded it off as he was one of those guys who held no sentimentality toward anything. Guns and dogs were just "tools" to him. Anyway, nice gun. Congrats.
