Default winchester mk II 1400 input needed

I just recieved this shotgun as a reminder of a life long mentor from his daughters. He died a couple weeks back at 90. I will miss him much and am very pleased to have his old 12 gauge 2 3/4" shotgun.

What can you tell me about this gun, please. Reliable ?

My grandfather loves the 1400. He is a Ohio resident and can only hunt with shot guns. He is also a huge fan of Winchester. Two models he loves are the 1400 shotgun and the model 88 rifle.
I have heard a lot of negative reviews of both of those guns. Personally I have shot both and they are great shooters. Performed flawlessly. The only disadvantage to the 1400 I know of is the 2 3/4 and round count. But where can you hunt with an unplugged shotgun anyways. The 1400 is a low recoil shotgun aswell.

it was the first of the stamped tin parts winchesters to come out of the new assembly line. they arent hand made guns. they are a mediam use gun...like once a year. if you limit its use, it will last. if you shoot 500 rounds a week, it will fall apart very fast.

Boy Bobski you make it sound more like a boat anchor. Thanks for the imput.

One more question.
It has screw in chokes, where would be a good place to get a set of chokes and is there any that do better than others?

As far as choke tubes...any win choke, Mossberg accu choke, Browning invector, weatherby, or savage choke should work...and it depends what you will be using the gun for as to what choke you will need
