I also have a Winchester ranger 1400, pretty well built guns, they are actually hard to find but there price doesn't show it, obviously if you break something it will be hard to find parts for it, keep it clean, and keep the bolt oiled good or it will not close properly, have fun with it, I love mine!!

Winchester has made a lot of good and excellent guns, I just don't think the 1200 and 1400s fall into either category. They were the first repeaters they produced after they applied their cost cutting designs. They had lots of issues. I used to shoot at a Winchester gun range, and they rented guns, and they would keep broken ones in a 55 gallon drum and when it got full they would ship them back for repair. I have seen the 1300s get some bad press as well, but I have not run across many issues with them at all. I sold guns for a lot of years and don't recall a 1300 coming back broke.

It seems that Winchester just didn't ever do very well in the auto shotgun business. However, that being said, I once had a Winchester M140 Ranger in 20 gauge and I shot a lot of skeet with it. It always functioned flawlessly without a hiccup. I did take it apart and gave it a good cleaning after every session including the piston. The 1400 should be a good gun if you take care of it.

Well I'll be picking the gun up tomorrow afternoon (in about 14-15 hours from now). I'lm going to check with the gun dealer in the meantime before shooting it (while my other shotgun is at the gun store right now getting some work done on it) and then if its not to high priced, drop it off for a good cleaning, if not I'll do the best I can cleaning it myself without taking it all apart. Once I get this one cleaned and oiled up and get my other shotgun back, then I'll be all ready to take all of my guns to the gun range and lay some serious ammo down range......and be sure to enjoy shooting the 3 new guns for for first time. So it maybe be a little while before I get to the range and test this shotgun out.

Well I name all of my guns, which has something to do with each gun or some way to describes each gun. The name for this shotgun is Mary which is short Mariah which is the name of the western wind. Felt it was only right to name it after a western theme since the brand Winchester is often referred to as the gun of the west.

Alright I spoke with the gun shop and they want $45 to take her apart and clean it up, as long as they don't run in to any problems, so I'm going to go ahead and do it. When they call me to let know they're done working on my Mossberg, and I go to pick it up, I'll drop off this one at that time and talk to the owner to see if he'll let me sit in with him when he goes to do the work, for I can learn.
