yeah..then what happens when the gun changes hands and they slip in a full house load?
owners can never leave well enough alone...and try to out engineer the designers in everything.
snake oil 101 is not a game i get involved in.
its getting to a point where guns need to be destroyed after owners tinker with them, just for public safety.
and people wonder why nib guns are so expensive.
i rest my case.

Well, I still shoot 1 1/8 oz loads. I buy cases of Rio 12 gauge 8 shot from Gander Mountain every week on Friday. I shoot skeet, every Sunday, 6 rounds. I shoot an over/under. I'm only 42 and I'm stout so I am not bothered by recoil. At least I don't feel like I am. All the frail 70 year olds get knocked around by it. My time will come. As for porting, I hate it. I hate standing next to a ported gun. Damn things are loud. I've shot some and I couldn't tell a difference, other than noise. I'd never own a ported shotgun.

However, some skeet reloaders have loads that can only be fired in breach loaders. A Remington CS rep told me if I wanted to shoot the lightest loads to send my gun to a gent who opens up the gas holes.
I almost always shoot clays with a double barrel 28 ga that is not ported. My left elbow has had bouts of tendonitis for years. I have been staying away from pumps since I got a new doctor. He is treating my elbow with various injections. The tendon going into my elbow looked like a frayed rope when he started treating it. Now the tendon is almost smooth.

I don't want to sell the slug gun. It is a deer slayer. All late model Mossberg slug barrels are ported. I can shoot that pump with one hand, the slide will be all the way back, ready to go forwards. it never short strokes.

Default semi auto

I voted semi auto.
The reason being I grew up with Remington 1100s,we hunted just about everything with a Rem 1100 semi auto shotguns quail, dove, pheasant, ducks, geese, turkey, squirrels,r abbits, deer, varmints, and coyotes.

Nothing was safe when it was in season

I am not a reloader and since I shoot factory loads, there is no reason for me to open the gas ports. I also like having the 3" capacity for this gun. After all, it's a Ducks Unlimited Special Edition - would seem unethical to downsize it.

Beretta/Browning Gas Autos - change springs or pistons for improved performance with super light or heavy loads.

Remington 1100's for skeet/sporting are usually already set for 23/4 only, so increasing the size of the gas ports is not going to batter the gun too much if you dropped in a high brass 4-6 shot. I'm sure they could just swop out barrels if it became an issue.

Pump action. Winchester 120/1200/1300/FNP. Rotary lock up. Dead nuts strong. Fast action.

2nd place is the Saiga's AK system. When set up right, it will feed/cycle nearly anything. My Saiga will eat rusty crap that will make ANY pump gun lock up solid. 10 rounds in 1.8 seconds. That is FAST!

I will second you on AK Shotguns Robo! I love my Catamount Fury II. Softest shooting 12Ga. I e ever had my hands on, even beats out my 1100! Bob. Fast can be important in a defensive shotgun( I'm sure you know that) if you need to "Stop the Threat" a 10 rd. Mag of 12Ga 00 changes a bad guys' Status right quick. If I had one of those at 18-19 when I worked as an armored Guard.
