My father has an old H&R
28GA. I love that thing. Shot a lot of squirrel .and dove with it. Only problem is shells are a nit more expensive.

Right now #1 is 12 because i'm a tacticool mall ninja with a fancy HD pump gun, but I can't forget all the days of my youth and the only shotgun our family owned, the 20 gauge..Lots of memories.

I like the 12 and the 20, 8 or 9 shot shells. Breaking clays makes me happy.

12 and 20. Two of the most common, easiest to find, and affordable to shoot, and they're both well rounded.

If only one, I'd pick 12. Didn't used to be that way, but I finally found a gun that's actually comfortable for me to shoot all day.

I have a 16 Ga 870 that is very comfortable to shoot and can handle almost every kind of game. It was built in the 50s and is still going strong.
