I prefer #1 buck followed by a slug. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Confirmed by a caller to his show from alaska saying it's a great bear stopper.

Although I keep a variety of buckshot shells, and might alter what I usually keep loaded for a specific situaiton, I generally keep a Mossberg loaded with alternating #4 buckshot and slug rounds.

I have been to Alaska and the recommended defensive bear load was Brenekee Slugs. Not Foster Slugs or any shot.
