Default What is a Western Field 550CD 20 GA worth?

I have a Western Field 550CD 20 GA with a C-Lect choke (basically a Mossberg 500, but made for Montgomery Ward back in the day) that is well over 30 years old. Does anyone know if it's worth anything? I only ask because I am planning on getting a new slug barrel/scope combo for it and maybe touching up the finish. I wouldn't want to re-blue or re-finish it if it's going to damage the value, but my sense is that it's value mostly lies in it's useability. Any info is greatly appreciated.

It's a solid shooter. There is little or no collector interest.

Natman nailed it. There IS collector interest in older Mossberg 22 rifles, but little in the shotguns. But they make good shooters.

Ok, since it has sentimental value to me and I love shooting it, sprucing it up with a new finish and maybe a new slug barrel to keep it in good working order sounds like a good option. Thanks.

My first shotgun as a kid was a 20 ga. Westernfield 550A as I recall. 28" Imp. Mod. choke barrel. I paid $49 at Wards back in the mid-60's for it. It's a sweet shooter and can shoot all day long with the 12 ga's. guns. I would carry it when we went out hunting quail, pheasant, ducks, rabbits or squirresl and would always bring home my limit along with the adults who were using 12 ga. guns. It's still solid as rock and is in pristene condition. My wife loves to shoot it at clays I throw for her.

Sadly, $150 to $200 is all you're going to get for it these days providing it's in real good condition. The market for shotguns like that is flooded. I doubt if there's any collector's value to it.
