I had my doubts as well, my friend.

Seeing was believing for me. As I said, the wad in the Hornady load is the same as the one in the Federal Flite control loads, just under a different name. Shooting these next to Remington and Winchester loads was eye opening. I recommend just buying one box, along with a box of Remington, or Winchester 00 buck and see for yourself.

I took some pictures when I tested them, but I think they are in an old computer. I'll do some checking and see if I can find them and post them. In the mean time here is a good look at the difference this new wad makes. I know it is comparing a #1 Federal load against a 00 load but it is still pretty consistent with what I saw comparing 00 to 00.

My choice of words was poor. I guess I should have said, it is not outside if the realm of possibility. It should not be expected. You are correct. What can be said, is that the loads increase the effective range of buckshot considerably, where previously only keeping close to a third of the pellets on target would have been realistic.

I bought some Winchester 9 shot target stuff awhile back for the wife to use when we went pumpkin blasting. super light recoil for a 12 gauge. I think a box was around $5 at walmart at the time.

Keep in mind you don't have to spring for the Critical Defense load to get the Veratite wad. I use this which I buy in bulk and I'm sure it's cheaper than Critical Defense.

Their TAP, Zombie Max, and Critical Defense use the same wad. Sportsman's warehouse near me carries all three. Usually the same price, but if one is cheaper I'll pick up a box or two.

Oh, OK thanks. I assumed the CD would be the most expensive based on other calibers........

I think I bought 250 shells last time from SG Ammo, I think and their price was pretty good.

Yeah, the Federal version costs about $3 more per 10 rounds. That's why I've settled on the Hornady loads. I still haven't found any of the federal #1 loads that use the FC wad. I would love it if Hornady made those.

I just checked ammoseek for #1 buckshot. All I could find was sellers and beliot. I shoot Winchester Super X 00 buck. There are 15 #00 pellets in a 3" shell. We are going to to shoot the shells we have for SD. I buy Winchesters for hunting. It makes no difference how good the flight control wad might be if Federal doesn't distribute the ammo. So far in my life the Flite Control wad is a rumor. I searched for federal #00 buck with the flite control wad, no one had it.

Sportsmanship Wearhouse near me has the Federal Premium 00 buck with the FliteControl wad in stock, but they also had the Hordady loads, which were cheaper. I just have never found any if the #1 loads in stock.
