Yup cheap bulk skeet/target packs at walmart are usually weak for a 12ga.

If she is really recoil sensitive shotguns are the worst option for shooting. Lots of women like shooting collapsable stock ar15 because the lack of recoil.

Going out to try my new 20GA this morning. 12GA, even light loads, would mess me up. I love shooting the AR15, and I can put 400+ rounds through my 9mm in a day so I am not a wimpy girl, just not fond of being beat up by recoil. Will report in later today.

the cheap bulk packs in #7 or #8 are what the wife and i use here at the house in the pump shotguns for practice and fun.

funny thing is, she doesn't like the same loads in my O/U shotgun!

7/8 oz "ultra-lite" target loads in 12 ga have almost NO recoil.

they also offer some reduced recoil loads in 12 ga. as well, but those are sometimes a bit more expensive.

Recoil management is largely a product of proper placement. The heel should be slightly ABOVE the shoulder. The shoulders and feet more square to the target, not the passé 45 degree angle. A good, firm cheek weld. lean slightly into the gun. Her weight should be on the balls of the feet, not the heels. She controls the gun, not the other way around

I have the Blackhawk recoil absorbing stock on my Mossberg 12 gauge. I use Hornady TAP 00 reduced recoil loads for both target and self defense. The recoil is incredibly light. My daughter (20 yrs) is about a buck ten soaking wet and she loves shooting that gun.

I highly recommend this Hornady load.
