I've seen cows and bulls put down with a .22 pistol. Of course a couple of them required an inordinate amount amount of rounds. One young Angus didn't stop until he was dragged down by several hundred feet of barbed-wire fence and several snapped-off fenceposts. Butchering doesn't always go precisely as planned.

with proper placement a 12 gauge slug /buckshot will kill anything on planet earth . take into consideration distance of shot ,angle ,etc ...the toughest pound for pound animal on the planet is the water buffalo be it cape/african or asiatic/vietnam and they have been killed by a 16 gauge
