Heavy shot #4 or larger, in low brass is cheap. 2 3/4 shells, short distance in homes your gold. It dumps all it's energy fast, 8 shot in low brass 2 3/4 is around 1200 to 1300 fps, that's faster than a 45acp and a lot bigger.

Beat up the newb. Ok. 3" magnum is more than I will need for home defense. Hit 00 shot on spot at 30 feet. All holes in kill zone with consistency. Picked up a handful of 2 3/4 slugs. Hit 4 out of 5 @ 40 feet in 10" circle. Not bad for 18.5" barrel. Probably gonna carry shot and slugs in the gun. Now to ice the shoulder.

I buy different lengths for my shotguns and they both work great but I don't ever load them at the same time. I know you can, I just don't do it.
