if they do that would be the dumbest thing the company can do. Thats probably there big money product right there. I doubt that gun is going anywhere any time soon. the 887 (the new pump) has a few improvements over the 870, but its going to take a lot to replace the 870.

If your just using it for home defense get a Mossberg. Yes a Remington might be a little bit better but...
1. Mossbergs are very light.
2. Mossbergs are Cheap but Reliable.
3. Mossberg even makes some "Security" Shotguns that are for Home Defense.

The only problem is that Remington has a boat load of parts you can use. Mossberg doesn't

I bought a Pardner Pump at Dick's Sporting Goods. 18.5in barrel, all black. It's a good gun. I've taken it to the range and got a feel for it. And put the shells through it. I would recommend it. Very reasonable price too

I personally own a maverick 88 great shotgun. It can take all the same accessories as a 500 except a mag extension.

I recently bought the pardner pump on sale at academy and I love it. Its strong and reliable. The other good thing is that all accessories for the 870 fit this model with little or no modification. For the price you can't.go wrong

Erm no. You'll find just as many parts for both.

Where did you hear this from? The 870 is Remington's poster child. That's like Ford stopping production of the F-150 or if Apple were to just stop making iPhones.

There was rumors floating around about the 887 replacing it. I am assuming that's why a lot of articles has a comment from remington saying it's in no way replacing the 870.
