I have an 870 and it's a good gun, have had no problems with it since I got it about 2 years ago.But as a rule of thumb, the 870's,with their steel recievers, classic safety and debris guard/loading gate are really meant to be a woodsmans gun and right at home firing slugs all day long, but also doubles as a great house/defensive gun.The Mossberg 500 is the opposite-with it's light aluminum reciever, open loading chamber and easy thumb safety,it's main purpose is to be a defensive/LEO gun that doubles as a good woodsman's gun.
