Default Steel shot in Franchi

Hey everyone. Long time lurker first time poster.

I have a 20 gauge Franchi shotgun with a modified barrel. The gun is around 35 years old. Do you think it would be safe to shoot steel shot through this gun?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I would be very hesitant to use this shotgun regularly with steel shot. A couple of rounds down range is one thing but using it for regular waterfowling would probably not be the best idea. Going with some of the other non-toxic shot might be a better idea.
