Hey I'm from Connecticut and I'm in the market for a slug gun so I can hunt whitetail on state land. Iv been doing some research and have looked at the Remington 870 express slug and the mosberg 535 slug/field combo (comes with both barrels). I need help making a decision and want to know some first hand reviews on the accuracy, durability, and just overall quality. Thanks.

My recommendation is always the H&R Ultra Slug. Heavy gun that helps absorb the recoil from the slugs. Once I found the ammo that mine likes, it will make the holes touch at 100 yards. Right in the low $200 range. I have a 2-7x 40 scope on mine.

I would try to find a marlin slug master and shoot light field slugs I use to have this set up and it is a true 200 yard slug gun.....if you can't find a marlin savage makes a really good bolt action slug gun also and Browning makes one too but they are in the $

remington makes a good deer gun my old 870 20 ga was a combo. they make 12 ga combos too. i got my first deer with an 870 and i will only use an 870 for deer just because of that. another plus with the 870 is the simplicity. easy to clean very few parts to go bad. and if a part does go bad, its easy to replace.

I use an 870 combo, rifled slug barrel with scope. It's good to 80 yards, then groups open up. I've been eyeing the h&r and the savage bolt action 20 gauge. Reviews on the savage had it grouping under an inch at 100 yards. A coworker has one and it groups around 3 inches at 100 yards, but he says that's his shooting.

for me in IL i keep my gun sighted at 50 yards. for slugs 100 yards is good.

Fitted and tuned 870 for me. Sub 2" at 100 yds, rapid followups and fits like a rifle (low scope mount, on D&T receiver, high comb stock).
