I traded a Springfield pistol today for a Beretta A390ST 12 gauge with 3 chokes. Looking to get into skeet a bit and thought this would get me started. Am I wrong?

I took it apart and cleaned it all up tonight. Thank goodness for YouTube. I just watched a video how and followed along. I swear, what did people do before YouTube? One thing is certain, it sure needed cleaning. Why don't people clean their guns? Especially if they are selling or trading them. Morons. I can't help but feel I saved it.

What kind of shells will I need?

What else will I need?

And what is that part on the side of the receiver that can be pushed in? You can see it in the picture. What does it do?

Thanks!

You have what should be a very good gun to kill skeets. Totally agree with you about cleaning. My Remington won't go as long as some newer designs between quick cleanings, but I rarely shoot over 400 shots in an outing anyway. I use Remington, Federal, or Winchester cheap loads of 7-1/2s or 8s most of the time. My guns all cycle them all, but some have issues with the Winchesters. If it matters more, I will step up to the target loads in the same brands. A little better performance, but it's more the Indian than it is the bow or arrow.

it keeps the shell in the mag when the action cycles the one in the chamber.

I'm going to start shooting skeet, and instead of buying an expensive O&U, I would like to get a skeet barrel for my 1100 but I don't know what to get.
I've had lots of opinions from members of the new range, but it is new and so are the members.
I would like to buy a nice skeet gun when I get used to shooting and maybe shoot sporting clays or rabbits when I get good at skeet.
Where can I find a barrel for my 1100 12 gauge Remington? I have cases of 12 ga. 7 1/2 shot, but do I need to start with 8 or 8 1/2?
Thanks for any info.

GunBroker, GunsAmerica, Corson's Barrels, BarrelExchange, Cabelas, BassPro, Brownells, Midway, Remington, and yes even eBay have plenty of Remington Model 1100 barrels. It is only the most popular semi auto shotgun ever made. Just for Skeet a vent rib barrel choked Skeet or Improved cylinder will work fine, of course for more bucks there are also plenty of choke tubed barrels. 7-1/2 will work fine although the serious guys will use 8 or 9. My 1100 turned me from the local joke to league high average shoot 50 years ago. Unless you have a new Sporting model or a G3, any 1100 barrel will fit. Those models have the wider 11-87 sized extractor and the slot on an older barrel would have to be widened to match.
