i think good ole 'open or out' rule is best enforced.
agree?
Loaded guns - pointed downrange - no exceptions

When a gun is being handed off to another shooter or placed in a rack, its unloaded, action is opened and pointed up - no exception

I've been a member in two private ranges (Georgia and Colorado) and I'm not sure if stupid is more prevelent in public ranges. Seems to me that both have their fair share.

100% agree, pointing downrange for a loaded gun.
but how do you walk around the skeet circle with an unloaded gun was my question. do you make all your skeet shooters load their gun with it horizontal to the ground only?
case in point, o&u's. the bbls are facing down when youre loading them.
riot gun bbls are so short, most carriers carry them hugged against their shoulder with the muzzle pointing at the guys head next to him, or they sling it over a shoulder with the bbl pointing backwards. neither of which is allowed on my range. i make all carry's down with action open. bbl forward.

Where I shoot the biggest annoyances from most traditional shooters are semi autos, where break bbl's are more prevalent. Some ranges won't allow pump or auto. But the are becoming more and more popular. For carrying we've got to put in a big ass breach flag.

Don't worry too far for you, across the pond. To be fair you get this attitude in mostly the private member clubs where you still come across the aristocratic and well to do types they are very traditional and snobby. On the public ranges where you dont pay membership it's free and easy mostly automated No one is observing. You just get on with it with your buddies. The best ranges are the membership ones though.

Anyways I've only recently started taking up clay bustin and what I'm finding is that most shooters try and get you doing down the line (trap) saying it helps get your shooting right. But I have found that skeet is much better because it gets you swinging through the clay rather than a tendency to pick a spot. What did you find useful starting out?

I enjoy trap. I've been looking to get into a club around me. There aren't many.
