I recently purchased a red-dot for my HD Mossy 590, and hope to get it to the range this weekend. I have zero experience sighting in weapons, and I was wondering if any of you gentlemen (or ladies) have any suggestions or techniques.
The sight will be mounted on a picatinny rail. The barrel is 18.5 smooth bore.

At about 10 yards, shoot it. See where the center of pattern, or the slug, is versus the red dot. Adjust. When you get close you need to move back because the difference in axes between the bore and the sight could cause the trajectory to intersect the line of sight too soon, and then diverge.
