Ta da!!!!!

Hey, ya wanna perfect home defense gun? Change the safety swith on the 500 to a metal one and add their factory ventilated heatshield to the 18-1/2" barrel (for coolness, literally and figuratively, and it actually helps protect most of the barrel).

You good now?

Bought a Mossberg 500 Friday, took it out Saturday morning, out 15 rounds of Winchester Super X 2 3/4 slugs and 10 rounds of 00 buck and she's awesome.

That's the 20" 7+1, right? Sweet HD gun. A good value, right!? I would encourage you to change the safety switch when you get a chance tho...

What sight and how's it mounted?

You need to decide what purpose is most important for YOU.

Jim

This was my choice since I don't shoot birds or clays. However it will do deer or turkeys, unlock doors and people.

Hock, you're absolutely right. The red dot is a Barska I had lying around here at home. It's mounted on the rail on the receiver.

Cool. Glad I could help although there are other options as you know...

If you truly DO go this route, as a further aid, let me suggest reading and following the heatshield installation instructions. It's all actually very easy but you need a little, itsy bitsy, open-end wrench for the front bead sight on the barrel. It may be 1/16" -- I don't remember. You really need to remove it to slide the front of the shield over the WELL OIL LUBED barrel without scratching it. Also, cut the spacer slowly and properly so it contacts the magazine lug at the positioning you want. I also use the spacer-width to create a gap between the shield and the receiver -- you don't want these touching. Might wanna get that safety switch changed at the gunshop while you're there anyway...

Looking forward to seeing pictures and a range report!
