I have another question...i have a mossberg 535 12 gauge which for u that dont know is a "magnum" shotgun it shoots up to 3 1/2" shells and its a pump not an auto... my question is when i load three 3.5 inch shells in the gun the first one cycles fine into the barrell but the second and third one gets stuck and wont cycle up into the barrell...is it just a factory defect or what?

The 1100 can safely shoot the 2.5 inch /410, but they will not cycle properly.

When I said if gun is marked 3 inch, you can shoot 3 inch or shorter, that did not include when the word ONLY is stamped on the gun!
c3 we are on the same wave here have you any info on redrilling them i have it can be done but till i talk to someone who has done it he!! no got way to much in a sub gauge already

Are you pumping the action slowly or fast when this happens? If it is when you are going slow then try jacking the shells through it quickly as you would if you were shooting at a flock of ducks, I have found when working an action slowly it can cause all sorts of feeding problems in all different action types, otherwise if it still does it at a faster speed with all different shell types I'd say there is a problem with the gun.

Have that same problem but when I go to cycle a shell it will fall out the bottom

Not true...I accidentally chambered a 3" magnum into my 2 3/4 gun...didn't fire it but it loads and operates as it normally would....it just rides farther up into the chamber where pressure levels may be too high.

Default Are You Guys Actually READING This!?

At this moment I am holding a shell marked 2 3/4 ", and a metal ruler. The unfired shell is right at 2 and ONE quarter inches long. When fired, it will be 2 3/4 inches long.

When a shotshell is fired, the front end unfolds. Notice how a fired shell is longer than an unfired shell? A 3 inch shell in a 2 3/4 chamber does not have room between front of shell and forcing cone for the shell to unfold. It tries to unfold into the cone and barrel. Not enough room, so shot and power piston get squeezed. Pressures jump WAY up.

Cliff's notes version- do not use ammo longer than what is marked on the gun. If it says 3 inch, you can shoot 3 inch or 2 3/4s.
I am not convinced you guys really read and understood this EITHER time the Mod wrote it.

Do please read it carefully!

cliffs notes speak true. what is stamped on the barrel and is printed on the box should be paid attention to. in my experence mb 500s will drop shells if cycled real fast and rem 1100s in .410 if thay say 3 in plastic only will not be reliable with 2.5 shells been to both the dances

When a shell falls out of the bottom it is an interrupter issue or a cartridge stop problem.
The interrupter isn’t releasing the shell in time or the stop isn’t catching the shell after it is released from the interrupter as the bolt is pushed back into battery on the forward stroke.
They usually get reinstalled wrong or they get bent, it’s an easy fix. It’s not a problem with the model, the design is sound.
