shotgun with forward pistol grip
 

If you had a pump shotgun, removed the stock and installed a pistol grip, then installed a forward pistol-grip to replace the pump grip what would that gun be legally classified as (at least on the federal level)

Because I want to buy a 590 and do this to it:

It's still federally legally classified as a regular pump shotgun-AS LONG AS IT STILL HAS 18" barrel/28" OAL. I have almost the same thing except I found a top folding stock assisted my aim better when unfolded. Mine is a Remington 870 however.

Ditto, I have the same tac shotgun, with folding stock, all the same accessories, except rear top spot, and it's a mossy 500. SB same here with the aim.
