Which shotgun?

I want a reliable shotgun for trap/skeet shooting that also has a shorter barrel available so it can also be used for home defence. Also, I want all this and I want to not spend a fortune. I'm sure this is doable, but so e recomendations always help.

Many of the pump shotguns have swappable barrels allowing you to use a longer barrel for bird hunting and a shorter, open choke barrel for home defense. My Mossberg 500 has a 28" modified choke for hunting and a 18.5" cylinder bore/open choke for home defense use.

I don't think a pump would be the "coolest" choice for organized trap & skeet competition.

I would compromise on the recreational use and get the better defensive choice, a pump.

If the dollars are there, over under shotguns seem to be liked by many people for that sport.

Maybe this one (or a better one) could be ordered with two sets of barrels. http://www.tombstonetactical.com/catalog/escort/silver-synthetic-shorty-ou-shotgun-12ga-18in-black-gray/

I'm not sure I would want to biden it out in a home defense situation though; I like the idea of having more than a pair of shots ready to go.

This is one of the good things about any shotgun with a removable barrel. You can have several different barrels for whatever applications you wish to use it for. As far as which one you chose, it don't matter, they are all good. Get the one that 'fits' you best! :)

I use a Remington 1100 w. 18.5 in. barrel for HD. Then purchased a used 28 in. barrel for skeet. Just for kicks, I shoot the short barrel at the skeet range sometimes. Fellow shooters think it's a great feat the break 25 w. a HD shotgun.

Any over/under is a great choice for skeet. 28" barrel. Modified skeet chokes. Kreighoff is the best. Then browning benilli

Mossberg Model 500\590, or Remington 870 wingmaster. Order up a smooth slug barrel for HD for either one. There is a large amount of them out there that are trade ins, and the aftermarket for both is strong. If you want to add something to either one, parts and accessories are available from several companies, and are usually reasonably priced.

Find friends that have both models, and try them both out before you decide on one.
