Pull the gas plug out and inspect the gas ports. There should be three, but some have four and there's a couple with two. Make sure they're clean and free from slag. And if you were unfortunate enough to get a two port, you might have to open them up carefully.

On my saiga I tried to run the cheap stuff through it at first, I had jams and it had problems ejecting the rounds. The I ran about 25 shots of the high brass ammo through it, and i now use the low brass rounds and it works like a charm. No reasoning to back it up, just if you run out of other options give it a try
